Taiwan Brain Trust Trend Survey 10/2014
Key findings from the latest release of Taiwan Brain Trust Survey (October 2014):
- 69.5% of the public is dissatisfied with President Ma (+0.6% compared to previous survey).
- 65.8% of the public is dissatisfied with Premier Jiang (+4.2%).
- Only 15.5% approves Cabinet’s performance (- 4.7%).
- 72% is dissatisfied with the performance of the KMT (+2.8%).
- 49.5% is dissatisfied with the performance of the DPP (-6.1%).
- Party favorability: DPP 24.5%, KMT 16.7%, TSU 1.9%, PFP 5.4%.
- Least favored party: DPP 12.4%, KMT 37.9%, TSU 11.2%, PFP 4.5%
- 64.4% (+4%) of the public identifies themselves as Taiwanese, 3.5% as Chinese, 28.2% as both.
- 87.9% of the public identifies themselves as Taiwanese and 6.7% as Chinese when the third option (both) is eliminated.
- 70.1% of the public believes that Taiwan is is a sovereign, independent country (+6.2%)
- On cross-Strait relations, 55.4% (-3.4%) supports status quo, 28.4% (+3%) independence, and 6.6% (2.4%) unification.
- 67% of the public supports independence, 14.2% unification with China when the third option (status quo) is eliminated.
- 58.1% of the public thinks that China is hostile towards Taiwan (+7.7%).
- Only 13.3% of the public is favorable towards China (-7.1%).
- 63.0% of the public supports “Occupy Central” Movement in Hong Kong.
- 59.7% considers “One Country, Two Systems” in Hong Kong a failure.
- 72.1% opposes “One Country, Two Systems” for Taiwan.
